Iranian fusion band

Tarnoosh is an Iranian fusion band, wherein the fusion is not in the arrangement of the instruments, but is in the movement of melodies, harmonies, and the creative exploitation of Iranian national and folk instruments. At times, the use of the bass guitar and drums alongside and Iranian ensemble injects more life and mystique into Tarnoosh’s tracks.
Despite drawing close inspiration from movie soundtracks, Tarnoosh’s instrumental tracks are much more animate and easier to picture: The songs are produces with the intention of creating a lively and exciting soundscape which is an amazing fit for energetic live performances and concerts. Moreover, the band’s tracks have a very high potential to be mixed with instruments from other nations as well. As an example; the song “Razm”, features a dazzling fusion of the Chinese Erhu, and the Persian Ney flute.

Tarnoosh has so far released one studio album, “Tarnoosh”, which is named after the band, with the upcoming album “Ensaan” (Human in Persian) having just finished production. This album attempts to create a new feel and sound using classical Iranian folk and orchestra instruments, such as; the Tar, Santoor, Oud, Kaman’cheh, Qanoon, Ney flute, Tombak, Dohol, etc. without the use of instruments from other nations. A sound unexpected from the usual orchestral ensemble. In this piece, the Oud replaces the bass guitar, the Santoor replaces the electric guitar’s arpeggios and chords, and the percussion instruments (Tombak, Dom-Dom, Dohol, Daff, Dayereh, etc.) play the role of drums. The other instruments (including stringed ones such as the Tar, Kaman’che, and the Qanoon) play the role of melody and counterpoint alongside the wind instruments (such as the Duduk, and Ney).

Ensaan features seven tracks which are based on emotions and unique human traits such as; Dark (Understanding), Shouq (Excitement), Eshq (Love), Eeal (Tribe and community), and more. In reality, this album is a protest, to the use of Artificial Intelligence in human-centric fields such as the arts. Here, humans are portrayed instead of AI, as they are the most unique, complex, and convoluted beings ever known.
